My name is Matt McLoughlin, and I would like your vote on November 5th to continue serving
on our Malta Town Board.
Our town is beautiful, and my unwavering commitment is to ensure that future development
aligns with our town's unique character. I am deeply concerned with the type of development
occurring, particularly the unnecessary clear-cutting of our trees and forest. Since being
appointed to the Town Board last December, I’ve been a strong opponent of over-dense
development. I want to tighten our zoning laws and say “NO” to developments out of
character for the town we love. I want to ensure that the small, home-town feel of Malta is not
sold out to out-of-town developers.
My wife, Kara, and I raised our family in Malta. Our son graduated from Ballston Spa High
School, and our daughter attends. Along with our daughter, I’ve been involved with the
Ballston Spa Soccer Club, where I had the honor of coaching our youth. We feel the best part of
Malta is the beautiful parks, playing sports in Luther Forest, walking the trails and paths, and
enjoying our hometown's small businesses and single-owner restaurants.
After graduating high school in 1990, at seventeen, I enlisted in the Marine Corps.
Thirty-four years later, I still serve in the military as a Lieutenant Colonel in the New York Army
National Guard. I am proud to have earned my bachelor’s degree using the GI Bill. In 1998, I
joined the ranks of the New York State Police. Along with other Troopers and Sheriff’s
Deputies, we patrolled our neighborhoods day and night, standing guard while our children
played in the parks during the day, and slept peacefully at night. I fell in love with Malta, a love
that has only grown stronger over the years. In October 2001, I bought our first home here. I
could not sleep in the house that first night because I deployed back down to Ground Zero
to assist with recovery efforts as a Trooper. As a National Guardsman, I deployed to Iraq and
Afghanistan assisted in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irene and Sandy, and the COVID-19
response, to name a few.
If you vote for me on November 5th, I can vote for you and our town every month at our Town
Board meetings.
Very Sincerely,
Matthew J McLoughlin
